Canadian Universities: Master’s and Post-Graduate Degrees
MASTER’S DEGREE
Once you complete your Bachelor’s Degree, you may choose to pursue a Master’s or Post-Graduate Degree. These degrees are meant to supplement your knowledge in a given field by delving into deeper topics from the undergraduate level.
Generally lasting two to three years, a Master’s Degree is where you apply the concepts you learned from your undergraduate degree to more specific topics in your program. In many cases, these degrees require a thesis and research, with supplementary courses that may help students with any gaps in knowledge. While some Master’s programs exist that do not require a thesis, many are heavily geared towards research. Canadian institutions offer hundreds of programs throughout the country, helping students specialize in whatever field they choose.
POST-GRADUATE DEGREE
Similar to a Master’s Degree, a Post-Graduate Degree can only be pursued if you have completed your Undergraduate degree. However, Post-Graduate Degrees are generally in the form of diplomas or certificate programs, which help supplement prior studies. This makes them less intensive than a Master’s Degree but are usually completed faster, with most programs spanning 6 months to 2 years.
It is common for individuals to pursue a college certification or post-graduate degree after their Bachelor’s, since the extra qualifications can go a long way to obtaining higher-leveled employment.
