LANGUAGE SCHOOLS IN CANADA

Canada offers excellent schools for international students looking to improve their language proficiency. Many employment opportunities or academic institutions require you to know some degree of English in order to be considered, so choosing to develop your language skills can go a long way for future endeavours.

Language schools have many programs that are tailored for different abilities, offering classes at beginner, medium, and advanced levels. These institutions are often geared specifically for international students and immigrants, with classes generally being flexible to be easily accommodated into schedules.

HOW THE PROCESS WORKS

When you enter a language school, you take a placement test that determines what language skill level you fall under. During your time as a student, you will get the chance to improve your proficiency, and a final exam determines whether you are allowed to move up to the next skill bracket. Once you successfully complete a course, you are awarded a language certification that attests to your language skills.

LANGUAGE EXAMS

While universities and colleges need certain language requirements to be eligible to study, most language schools do not. You are not required to have a pre-existing International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Test D’Évaluation de Français (TEF) score, which are normally mandatory for non-native English/French-speaking international students. This makes these institutions the perfect venue for those looking to improve their language skills, especially if they are planning to study at a Canadian university or college, or take the IELTS or TEF exam in the future.

HOW CAN I ATTEND A LANGUAGE SCHOOL?

Depending on your language proficiency, language programs may last from as little as six months to approximately one year. Most temporary visitor’s visas expire within the first six months of their issue date, making it difficult to learn a language in such a short amount of time. Obtaining a student permit can allow you to study at language schools or universities without having to worry about time constraints.
